Opening Prep for Android

Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how the developer of the Opening Prep Android application (package name com.openingpreparation), referred to as “Opening Preparation,” “we,” “us,” or “our,” handles information when you use the app. It also explains your choices and how to contact us.

2. Information we collect or process

Depending on how you use Opening Prep, the app may collect or process the following categories of information:

• App, device, and advertising identifiers: an Android device identifier, Firebase Installation ID, anonymous Firebase user ID, Firebase Cloud Messaging token, Android advertising ID, App Set ID, and, where applicable, other identifiers related to accounts signed in on the device.
• App and device information: app version, operating-system and device information, language or locale, locale country, session timestamps, and similar technical information.
• App activity and analytics: screens viewed, app interactions, sessions, and general usage events.
• Advertising and ad-interaction information: when the app requests ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and transmits to Google the device IP address, which may be used to estimate general location; app launches and interactions such as taps and video views; SDK and app diagnostic information such as launch time, hang rate, and energy usage; and the identifiers described above. Google states that this information is used for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention and is encrypted in transit.
• Diagnostics: crash reports, errors, performance traces, profiling data, failed-network-request details, technical logs, view hierarchy, masked screenshots, and masked session replays. Screenshot masking is configured for text and images; session-replay masking is configured for text, images, and vectors. Sentry’s default collection of personally identifiable information is disabled.
• Chess.com information: a Chess.com username you choose to enter and public game information retrieved for that username, such as PGNs, player usernames, ratings, results, game times, and time controls. The validated username may also be stored in your private Firebase profile.
• Information you choose to provide: information included in a support email or feedback you submit to us.

Opening Prep uses anonymous technical authentication to protect its private cloud records. The app does not provide a named account, email/password login, or public user profile.

3. Information normally kept on your device

Your saved games, downloaded game history, PGNs, analyses, opening books, repertoire lines, imported or pasted chess content, app preferences, and engine settings are normally stored locally in app-private storage. We do not upload this chess content to our Firebase database.

The app reads clipboard text only when you choose the “Read Clipboard” action. It accesses a PGN or backup file when you select or open that file, and it sends data to another app only when you initiate an export or share action. Information you explicitly share is then handled by the destination you select.

4. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

• provide, maintain, and secure Opening Prep;
• retrieve public Chess.com game history requested by you;
• deliver service and app-update notifications;
• understand app usage and improve features and usability;
• display and measure advertisements and prevent advertising fraud and abuse;
• detect, diagnose, and fix crashes, errors, failed requests, and performance problems;
• respond to support, privacy, and legal requests; and
• comply with applicable law and protect users, the app, and our rights.

Opening Prep displays third-party advertising supplied through Google AdMob, including banner, interstitial, and app-open ads. Google may use the advertising information described above to deliver and measure ads, perform analytics, and detect or prevent fraud and abuse. Depending on your region, consent choices, and applicable settings, ads may be personalized, non-personalized, or otherwise limited. Opening Prep does not send your saved games, PGNs, analyses, opening books, or repertoire lines to AdMob for ad selection.

Google Analytics for Firebase may separately receive device or advertising identifiers and related storage or personalization signals for analytics, attribution, measurement, and Google service features.

5. Service providers and third parties

We use the following services, which process relevant information under their own terms and privacy notices:

When the app connects to a network service, that provider also receives ordinary connection and technical information, such as an IP address, request time, and app or device details, and may infer an approximate region from that information.

• Google AdMob and the Google Mobile Ads SDK to deliver and measure advertisements, perform advertising analytics, and prevent fraud and abuse. Google and, depending on the configured ad sources and your consent choices, participating advertising providers may process the advertising information described in Section 2. See Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
• Google Firebase (Analytics, anonymous Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Installations, and Cloud Messaging) for usage measurement, technical authentication, private cloud records, and notifications. See the Google Privacy Policy and Firebase Privacy and Security information.
• Sentry for crash reporting, app diagnostics, performance monitoring, masked visual diagnostics, and feedback. See the Sentry Privacy Policy.
• Chess.com when you ask the app to retrieve public games for a username. Chess.com receives that username in the request together with the ordinary connection information described above. See the Chess.com Privacy Policy.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a business transfer. We do not sell personal information for money. Some laws may treat disclosures for personalized advertising as “sharing,” “sale,” or “targeted advertising”; where required, eligible users can opt out through Advertising choices in the app.

6. Permissions and your choices

• Advertising choices: depending on your location and applicable law, the app may present a privacy message before requesting ads. When available, you can open Settings > Advertising choices to review or change applicable choices. You can also manage or delete the Android advertising ID through Android settings and manage Google ad personalization through Google’s advertising controls. Changing your choices may change how ads are personalized but may not remove ads.
• Notifications: on supported Android versions, you may allow or deny notification permission and change that choice in system settings. Denying display permission does not necessarily prevent the app from obtaining a technical messaging token.
• Chess.com: you can avoid entering a Chess.com username. Without it, the app will not request that account’s public game history.
• Files, clipboard, and sharing: these features are activated by your actions. You control which file or destination is selected.
• Local data: you can remove local data using app features where available, clear the app’s storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app.

The app does not request camera, microphone, contacts, or precise GPS location permission.

7. Retention and deletion

Local information remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app’s data, or uninstall the app. Cloud profile information and service-provider records are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including operation, security, diagnostics, support, and legal obligations. Retention periods may also depend on provider settings and policies.

Information processed by Google AdMob is retained according to Google’s applicable settings, policies, and legal obligations.

Uninstalling the app removes its local data but may not automatically remove an existing anonymous Firebase record or diagnostic and analytics records already processed. To request access to or deletion of information associated with you, email firedragon11091992@gmail.com with the subject “Opening Prep privacy request.” If you used a Chess.com username in the app, including it in the request may help us locate the relevant anonymous record. We may ask for limited additional information needed to verify and fulfill the request. We will respond and take action as required by applicable law, subject to information we must retain for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. Network traffic to the services described above uses encrypted HTTPS connections, Android backups are disabled for the app, and private Firebase profile records are protected by access rules. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children’s privacy

Opening Prep is intended for a general audience aged 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. The app does not ask users to provide a real name, email address, precise location, or other direct contact details to use the app. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information through the app without any consent required by law, contact us. We will investigate and delete the information when required.

10. International processing

Our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, the providers use safeguards for international transfers under their terms and applicable law.

11. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a copy of personal information, or to object to or withdraw consent for certain processing. You may submit a request using the contact information below. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, our data practices, or legal requirements change. We will publish the revised policy on this page and change the effective date above. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or through another appropriate notice.
